Chapter 54 of the Special Forces
Association is based in New England. The chapter members come
from all six New England states and beyond.
The chapter is named after LTC William
Buckley, a chapter member and Special Forces officer, who died in Lebanon in the service of his country -
more information is provided at the menu to the left by
clicking on his name.
The members of the Special Forces
Association, formed in 1964, are current and former Green Berets of the United
States Army from the active and reserve components. The
national headquarters of the Special Forces Association is
located in Fayetteville, North Carolina (near Fort Bragg - home
of SF). There are over 85 Special Forces Association chapters spread
across the country and overseas.
The Chapter 54 members meet several times a
year. The regular business meetings (some with guest speakers)
are held monthly, Memorial Day is observed by chapter
members in Stoneham, Mass, in late spring an annual Foreign
Weapons Firing weekend takes place, August the chapter
holds its annual cookout, Veterans Day is observed in Stoneham,
Mass, and the annual Christmas party is
held in December.

with SFA-72
based in New Hampshire and
SFA-48
based in Rhode Island.

Executive Board Meeting
February 11, 2023, Saturday, 0930 hours
Ferncroft Towers, 40 Village Road, Middleton, MA 01949
Topics for the meeting include proposed 2023 budget, update on
chapter finances, review of last year's calendar, and setting
the calendar for 2023. Additionally, a discussion will take
place on the future and structure of the Foreign Weapons
Familiarization Course. The meeting is open to the entire
membership. Coffee and doughnuts will be served during the
meeting; there will be pizza for lunch at 1130 hours.
RIP Bob Delia. Retired
CSM Robert Delia, an Associate Member of Chapter 54, passed
away on January 11, 2023. Services will be held on Sunday, March
26, 2023, in Pepperell, MA.

James Marnon passed away on December 17, 2022 in Dothan,
Alabama. He was 85 years old.
RIP Rolly Hill.
Chapter 54 member Roland F. Hill passed away on December 19,
2022. Arrangements to be handled by Casper Funeral and
Cremations of Boston, Ma.

Chapter members enjoyed a great Italian meal with their fellow
Green Berets! Socks were collected to donate to the Boston VA
hospitals. Bob
Delponte, Chapter Quartermaster, displayed coins and other SF
items for purchase. Door prizes and a 50-50 raffle were part
of the event. John Friberg provided a brief on the efforts of
veterans to assist in the evacuation and resettlement of
Afghans who served alongside U.S. Special Forces in
Afghanistan. Bill Fanaras provided a brief history about the
mlitary career of Chapter 54's first chapter president,

RIP Maria Pierelli.
The wife of Chapter 54 member Daniel Pierelli has passed away.
Maria was a frequent participant at the chapter picnics.

John Costello
passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022. A wake will be held on
November 1st and
graveside funeral on November 2nd in Tyngsborough, Ma.
Nominations for Chapter Member
of the Year. This year the chapter will select chapter
members for two awards. One is the
LTC Donald C. Van Roosen Award and the other is the
Malcolm Kalp Award. Nomination forms have been emailed out
to chapter members. Awards were not given in 2020 or 2021 due
to COVID and suspension of chapter operations.
