Former Chapter President, STILL SERVING, this time in HAITI

BOB HUNT

 

The MA-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) team personnel who deployed to Haiti for the earthquake that occurred on Jan 12, 2010 have returned home.  The 35-member team had a successful mission after overcoming many obstacles.
 
MA-1 was activated on Jan 13 to deploy to the devastated Haitian capital, Port-Au-Prince. the team returned on Jan 26.
 
On Jan 17 MA-1 established a field hospital in the courtyard of Quisqueya University, adjacent to the GHESKIO health clinic.
 
Members of MA-1 provided medical care alongside members of a composite International Medical Surgical Response Team (IMSuRT), made up of members of all three IMSuRTs from Boston, Miami and Seattle.
 
Over the course of 7 days the combined MA-1 and IMSuRT team treated 505 patients.  The patients included the births of 9 babies, including one set of twins, 66 surgical procedures, and 1 death.
