 SFA Chapter 54 Scholarship Program

Chapter 54 has established a scholarship program which will provide a $1000 tuition grant each year to a dependent or grandchild of an SFA Chapter 54 member in good standing.  Each year, the Chapter Scholarship Committee will review all applications received, and recommend a recipient to the Chapter Executive Committee for final approval.

Applicants must be the dependent spouse, child or grandchild of a member in good standing of SFA Chapter 54, or of a deceased member who was in good standing at the time of his death. The applicant must have been accepted by, or already be attending, an accredited College, University, Junior College or vocational institute, to include postgraduate studies.

Awardees must complete a full semester of school following award of the scholarship in order to receive it. Upon receiving satisfactory proof of successful completion of that semester, the SFA Chapter 54 Scholarship Committee will make payment directly to the school concerned, with instructions to apply the payment to the tuition cost for that student. No payments will be made directly to the student.

Eligible applicants must submit applications and required documents to: SFA Chapter 54, ATTN: Scholarship Committee, 58 Batterymarch Street, Suite 54, Boston, MA 02110-3207. Applications must be submitted beginning 1 March, 2008 but NLT 1 May, 2008 to be considered for an award following the fall 2008 semester. There is no formal application form, but all of the following documents are required in order to be considered:

a.       A sponsor letter from the SFA Chapter 54 member that states his full name, member number and relationship to the applicant.

b.      A personal letter from the applicant stating his/her educational and career plans and aspirations. This letter is the most important part of the application package. Be sure to include the applicant’s full name, address, telephone number, and email address.

c.       A copy of the applicant’s most recent transcript, SAT score, and or other evidence of scholastic achievement.

d.      One or more reference letters from teachers, counselors or school officials.

e.       A summary of extra-curricular activities, non-academic achievements and hobbies.

f.        A copy of the acceptance letter from the institute of higher learning.

The items listed above must be sent in together as a package for consideration.
