Annual Cookout 2019The Chapter 54 Annual Cookout was held at the Hanscom Air Force Base Family Camp Pavilion located at 1003 South Bedford Road, Bedford, MA. This site is adjacent to Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.
Date. Saturday, August 3, 2019 Menu. The Little Neck Clam Bake catered the event. The grilled dinner - served as a buffet - consisted of marinated steak tips, honey teriyaki chicken breast, and shrimp skewers with a mangao glaze. The sides were ceasar salad, pototo salad, corn on the cob, rolls and butter. Watermelon, assorted cookies, brownies, iced tea, and lemenade was provided as well. Coke and water on ice was available. Once again, the food by Little Neck Clam Bake was excellent! This is the fourth year that they have catered the event. Attendees. The weather cooperated and there was a good turn out. A total of 48 people attended. Naturally, the Hunt, Fanaras, Fitzgerald, and Shaw crowd entertained us with their jump stories. The stories seem to get better every year. Another group of members had their own group discussion on the recent (or not so recent) deployments made to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa. Some chapter members who had not been seen for years made an appearance. The "Arizona Boys" were persent once again this year - chapter members living in Arizona (one full-time and the other two 'snowbirds'). A handful of spouses showed up as well. Chapter Updates. The Chapter president - Ken Gingras - updated members present on current and future chapter events and business. One item briefed was the 'Homeless Veterans Initiative' (see below). During the cookout Vinnie Pestilli provided news on the upcoming foreign weapons training to be held in September. He displayed - and provided details about - the Benelli shotgun to be raffled at the foreign weapons familiarization course. You can opt in for the drawing with $25.00 for six raffle tickets. Homeless Veterans Initiative. The collection of socks and underwear briefs for Boston area homeless veterans started out with a success - 65 pairs of white socks and 51 pieces of underwear briefs were collected at the annual cookout. During upcoming events Chapter 54 will be collecting socks and underwear briefs for donation to Boston-area veterans during the holiday season. Learn more about Chapter 54's latest effort to help veterans via the Homeless Veterans Initiative. Rifle Raffle. A HK 416 .22 LR Rifle was to be raffled during the cookout. However, an administrative error has prompted a revision of plans for the raffle. The drawing will now take place at the chapter meeting on October 2, 2019. If you wish to purchase tickets for the H&K rifle drawing send a check payable to "SFA - Chapter 54" and mail to Ken Gingras, P.O. Box 817, West Barnstable, MA 02668. No request for tickets will be accepted after August 2019. You do not need to be present at the October meeting to win.
