In Memory of
Ron Damon

Ronald Charles Damon passed away at age 81 after a short illness on Satuday, January 20, 2018. He was born on December 26, 1936. Ron graduated from Deering High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) 21 and the Navy SEALs from 1956 to 1962. He later served with the 11th Special Forces Group at Fort Devens, Massachusetts from 1975 to 1990. He spent several years on the Combat Dive team while with 11th SFGA.

Career in Law Enforcement

Ron served for many years with the South Portland Police Department - 1968 to 1989 - retiring with the rank of Lieutenant. He was highly decorated and received numberous awards and commendations. In 1975 he received an award for "Bravery and Outstanding Arrests" from the Maine Chief of Police Association. In 2004 he was awarded a "Lifetime Achievement" award from the Maine Association of Police. He was a member of South Portland's SWAT and Dive teams as well.

After retirement from the South Portland PD he worked for the Maine Department of Drug Enforcement from 1989 to 1999. He also held a variety of other positions including Court Security, Corrections Officer, and as a City of Portland Fire Fighter.


Ron Remembered

Ron will be remembered as a great team mate, a hard worker, quick with a story to tell, and a man full of humor. One of his favorite sayings was "Fin Harder!". Ron enjoyed ice climbing, SCUBA diving, rock climbing, competitive body building, and power lifting.
