Homeless Veterans Initiative

The board and executive committee of Chapter 54 voted unamimously to support the Homeless Veterans Shelters of Boston, Massachusetts.

In previous years, prior to 2019, our chapter conducted a 'Yankee Swap' at the annual Christmas Party. Starting in 2019 chapter members, instead of spending money on gifts for each other during the annual holiday event, will be asked to make a donation for a worthy cause.

We have decided to redirect our effort to support veterans with a need and make a positive difference in their lives during the holiday season. The New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) in Boston, MA has identified socks and underwear briefs as a common need of homeless veterans.

In December the chapter will make a delivery of collected donations to assure our homeless veterans have socks and underwear briefs for the holiday season and beyond.

Specifics for donations:

White socks, size 9-12, donated in the manufactured packaging.

White underwear briefs, large only, donated in the manufactured packaging.

A donation stand will be setup during the annual cookout, weapons familiarization course, and Christmas party. In addition, you can mail your check, socks, and / or briefs to:

Kevin Paicos
21 Christopher Avenue
Easton, MA 02375-1561

Please make your check payable to: "SFA – Chapter 54". Kevin will use the money sent via check to buy items for donation in December.

Updates:

January 2020: The New England Center and Home for Veterans (Boston, MA) sent the chapter a Thank You Letter for our support in 2019 to Veterans in the Boston area.

August 2019: During the 2019 Annual Cookout held at the Hanscom Family Camp 65 pairs of white socks and 51 pieces of underwear briefs were collected. The chapter collection point at the Hyannis Vet Center yielded 37 pairs of white socks and 34 pairs of underwear briefs. There was a special surprise of 7 white t-shirts. The next targeted collection site is the Hyannis Community Based Outpatient Center. So the Homeless Veterans Initiative is off to a great start!
