Peaks Island Cookout

Map Portland Harbor Maine OSM

Saturday, June 6, 2026

Chapter 54 will be holding, with our invited GB Friends from Maine as well...our first and very special New England style lobster/clam bake with steamers and all the usual sides, on scenic Peaks Island, Maine off the coast of Portland on June 6, 2026!!

For months now, our Brother Fran O'Leary, a resident of Peaks Island, has been carefully planning all of the details for this incredible event.

We will meet Saturday morning, in Portland, Maine at a public parking lot, then ferry by car/bus to the Peaks Island Ferry Boat terminal, and board the ferry for the 15-minute ride to Peaks Island.

Once there, we will ferry by bus/car to the site of the cookout, the historic Greenwood Gardens with incredible views of the ocean, the Portland skyline, and the other Casco Bay islands. We will be treated to a guest lecture about the historic role of Peaks Island in WW II. Then we enjoy several hours of clambake and fellowship with our GB Brothers and Friends.

Lemonade and water, and a selection of beer, will be provided, but don't forget sunscreen, a hat and a raincoat in case of inclement weather (the venue is fully roofed for sun/rain protection).

Greenwood Gardens is called "Portland's Little Treasure" and is a major event site for weddings and similar celebrations - check it out on the Internet and I'm very sure you will be impressed.

The gardens are owned by the Peaks Island Lions Club, and thanks to their support for the veteran's community, we have been given a steep discount for our event. In addition, we have received an incredible gift of $10,000 donation from one of our own Chapter 54 friends, who has chosen to remain anonymous, which will cover all costs.

Thanks to the generosity of our Ch. 54 anonymous Friend, the Peaks Island Lions Club, and Fran O'Leary's initiative and careful planning, what would usually be a cost-prohibitive event is now made FREE to all Chapter 54 Members and 1 guest, and our GB Brothers in Maine as well!!

And all you have to do to attend, is to send an e-mail Kevin Paicos (Chapter President), by the registration deadline of May 24, 2026 with your choice of lobster or steak, your name and the name of your guest if any...and that's it, you are ready to attend. Sorry, but late registrations cannot be accepted as the Lions Club food notification requirements are strict, and 14-days prior to the event.

All registrants will be sent a second e-mail, in late May, with final details for where to arrive and the time, etc. This event will be capped at 160 registrants, so don't miss out - send your e-mail soon, and be part of this incredible event!
