In Memory of
Donald Cummings
Donald Cummings passed away on October 17, 2025 at the age of
82. He was a member of Chapter 54 of the Special Forces
Association. He served with the 7th and 11th Special Forces
Groups.

Donald was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He
attended Hofstra University on a football scholarship, playing as a
two-way starter. He was considered by the San Diego Chargers as a
potential draft choice had he decided to turn professional.
Donald joined the U.S. Army Special Forces (Airborne) in 1966. He served
during the Vietnam Conflict and was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group and
ended his military career with the 11th Special Forces in Fort Devens. Donald
was a Combat Engineer specializing in Demolitions/Explosives.
In civilian life Don worked with Mobil, Domino Sugar, and later, for 27 years
with Hyde Tools. He retired in 2006 as VP of Professional Products and VP of
International Sales with Hyde Tools.
Don spent 10 years with the Town of Sturbridge’s Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT) where he supported many community/police operations. He also spent
time as an instructor with the Connecticut State Police Bomb School.
Don's wife Peggy, passed away on May 16, 2026.
Obituary
A Funeral Mass for Don will be held on Friday, October 24th, at
11:00am in St. Mary’s Church, 247 Hamilton St., Southbridge, MA.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 23rd, from
5:00-7:00pm in The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St.,
Southbridge. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
